Writing for Profit

Do you want to earn money from writing? Would you like to get rich from your words?

It can be done but it takes hard work and persistence. Never give up. No matter how you decide to market your work you must keep going because it will pay off in time.

Try not to get discouraged. The best way to do this is to concentrate on building your portfolio. Forget about the long term goal and focus on the short term. Continue to send out your work but try to forget about it and get straight on to the next project, whether it is a new article or new chapter.

Take time to research your markets. Even the most brilliant writing will not get the attention it deserves if it is sent to the wrong place. As well as being a waste of time for all concerned you will not endear yourself to editors.

Write about what you know or a subject that interests you. If you need more knowledge of your chosen subject there are many sources of valuable information available. Use all of them. The more thorough your knowledge is the more valuable your writing will be.

One of the most important things is to simply write. Let the words flow. It does not matter how they appear on the page - that is what editing and proofreading is about - just get the words down.
